ABOUT US

Who are we

Colwyn Netball Club was founded in 1978. It is run by a passionate and dedicated committee of volunteers with the support of our players, parents and friends.

We have over 100 members, ranging from 6 to 60 years old. No experience in netball is required to become a member of the club. We have a team for everyone whether you want to play competitively or just to improve your fitness.

We encourage family and friends to support our teams, through coaching, managing, umpiring, helping out on the committee or simply being there at match times to cheer on our teams and be part of our netball family.

Mission statement

We believe in the power of competitive netball to help youths acquire skills, values and attitude which will enhance their development, create aspiration and encourage inclusion.

We aim to generate a lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity placing emphasis on effort, attitude and techniques over outcome. We will work together with all our members to ensure that the club’s reputation is for fair play and good sportsmanship.

We believe that netball is more than just a sport; it is our best moments, our closest friends and is to be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what their ability or age.

Our coaches

Amy Thompson

Head Coach – Adults

“I first caught the netball bug in primary school, about 28 years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I’ve been proudly wearing the Colwyn colours for a decade now.

One of my proudest moments in netball was being selected as one of the top 20 players in the Inter Counties Welsh League.

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching the college team, the North West Wales U18s, and led the senior North West Wales team to win the Second Division Inter Counties League.

What I love most about coaching is seeing players grow in skill and confidence.

When I’m not on court, I like to go for runs with my dog and spend time with friends and family.”

Lorien Chadwick

Head Coach – Under 14s

“I initially dabbled in gymnastics but made the switch to club netball when I was 14.

I’ve been with Colwyn for 17 years, took an 8-year detour to England and played in the premier league. I’ve represented the Eryri County team and North West Fury in the National League.

As a coach, I love seeing individuals come together to play as a team. I also coach the Flintshire County and North East regional U14 and U16 Netball teams.

My favourite netball memory is winning Varsity netball at university in front of 100 supporters.

When I’m not on the court, you’ll find me enjoying quality time with my family and dogs, usually on a scenic walk.”

Cat Goodson

Head Coach – Under 11s

“I started playing netball in Year 4 and had two amazing teachers – Mrs Matthews and Mrs Horner. I joined Colwyn around the same time and so have been playing for the club for 28 years! I’ve also played for Manchester University and the North West Wales county team.

My favourite netball moment was being Captain last year.

I started coaching in university, but the 2023/24 season is my first year for Colwyn. I love being able to pass on the knowledge and skills I’ve learned from all the brilliant coaches who have helped me.

Off the court, I’m usually found with my head in a book, playing the piano, and spending time with my daughters Evie and Ellie.”
